What F20 means
On LG electric and gas ranges with a numeric F-code display, F20 is listed as a door locking system failure for the lower oven. It is the lower-oven counterpart of F10. The control cannot confirm that the lower door's lock is where it should be, so the lower oven stops the function that needs a locked door. The door may be stuck closed or may not latch.
Common causes of F20
- The lower oven latch motor not moving
- A lock switch that is not reporting
- A latch that is binding
- A control that is not receiving the lock signal
1. Press CLEAR/OFF and run the function again. 2. If F20 returns, turn the breaker off for 30 seconds, then back on. 3. Do not pry the lower door. Wait until the oven is cool, and call us if it will not open.
- F20 points to the lower lock, so we test that latch circuit apart from the upper oven.
- We check the switch and the motor before we replace the full latch.
Other Range codes
How does F20 relate to F10?
Both describe a door lock that cannot confirm its position. F10 belongs to the upper oven and F20 to the lower oven. The test steps are similar for both.
The lower door will not open. What now?
Let it cool, do not force it, and try the breaker reset. If it stays locked, we release it safely. If it never releases, we free it without damaging the latch.
Can I use the upper oven?
The code is about the lower oven, so the upper one may work. We check before you rely on it. Each oven has its own lock circuit, so one can work while the other does not.
