01What goes wrong

Common dehumidifier problems we fix

In the order we see them across Houston homes.

01

Runs but collects little or no water

02

Evaporator coils iced over during operation

03

Bucket full light stays on when empty

04

Leaks water onto the floor

05

Fan runs but compressor does not

06

Loud rattle or vibration

LG dehumidifiers use a compressor and coil to cool air, condense moisture and collect it in a bucket or send it out through a drain hose. Many include a pump and a humidity sensor, and some link to the ThinQ app.

In Houston they often run for most of the year, in garages, closets, game rooms and ground-floor spaces. Constant duty clogs filters, scales the coil and wears fans, and damp spaces invite mineral and mold buildup around the bucket and float.

We check the filter, the airflow, the coil and defrost behavior, the float and the pump, then the fan, compressor and board. We tell you whether the unit is repairable and what that would involve, and give a written price before work. We service plug-in dehumidifiers only.

05Dehumidifier questions
My dehumidifier runs but the bucket stays empty. Why?

Low room temperature or already-dry air can reduce collection, so check the humidity setting first. A clogged filter, iced coil or low refrigerant can also stop it. Clean the filter and let it thaw if iced, then tell us what changes.

Why do the coils ice up?

Cool rooms, restricted airflow or a dirty filter let the coil drop below freezing. Turn the unit off, let the ice melt, clean the filter and make sure nothing blocks the air path. If it ices again in a normal room, a sensor or refrigerant issue may be involved.

The unit shows a full bucket but the bucket is empty. What is wrong?

The float or switch may be stuck or the bucket may not be seated. Reseat it, check for debris around the float and wipe it clean. If the light stays on, the sensor or the board may need to be tested.
