What L / Loc means
On LG lightwave (microwave) ovens, L or Loc means the child lock is set. The buttons are locked, so pressing them does nothing and the oven will not start a cycle. It is a user setting, not a failure. It is also worth confirming the door is fully closed, because an open or poorly latched door can make the oven seem unresponsive in a similar way.
Common causes of L / Loc
- The child lock was switched on by accident
- The door is not fully closed
- A panel press that was held down
1. Press and hold Cancel for 4 seconds to turn the lock off. 2. Check that the door is closed and latched. 3. Try starting a short cycle. 4. If the lock will not turn off, unplug the oven for a minute and try again.
- If the lock will not release, the panel may be reading a stuck button, and we test that.
- If the door looks closed but the oven still will not start, the door switches need a check.

What does Loc mean on my microwave?
Loc means child lock is on. The buttons do not respond until you turn the lock off. A locked oven will not start a cycle until you release it.
How do I turn off the lock?
Press and hold Cancel for 4 seconds. The same hold turns the lock on again, so use it to lock or unlock. Holding it again locks it, which is how the lock gets switched on by accident.
The lock is off but nothing works. Why?
Check the door is closed and latched. If it is, and the display is also blank or frozen, the oven needs testing. Closing the door firmly can also make a difference.
