What Sb, 5b means
Sb or 5b on an LG electric or gas range or wall-oven-style cooking appliance with a numeric display means Sabbath Mode is active. This is not an error code. In this mode the temperature cannot be changed, and the timer, light, and alarm are disabled, so the oven can look unresponsive even though nothing is broken. People often set it by accident while pressing buttons or cleaning the control panel.
Common causes of Sb, 5b
- Sabbath Mode turned on by a keypad sequence
- Buttons pressed while wiping or cleaning the control
1. Press Bake. 2. Set the Bake temperature with the plus and minus keys. 3. Press Start. 4. Press and hold Clock for 3 seconds to turn Sabbath Mode off. 5. Confirm that Sb or 5b has left the display and the timer and light work again.
- If the display keeps returning to Sb or 5b after you turn it off, the keypad may be sending presses we need to test.
- If the oven does not heat after Sabbath Mode is off, that is a separate issue we would check.
- We give a written price before any work.

Is Sb a problem with my oven?
No. Sb is a setting, not a breakdown. The oven is working as designed, just with the timer, light, and alarm disabled and no way to change the temperature while the mode is on.
Why can't I change the temperature?
Sabbath Mode locks the temperature on purpose. Turn the mode off with the Bake, Start, and Clock sequence, and normal controls should come back right away.
What if Sb keeps coming back?
Repeated returns could mean stray presses, such as a wet or sticky keypad. Clean the panel gently first. If it still turns on by itself, we can inspect the control and quote the repair in writing.
Still unsure about Sb, 5b?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
