An LG InstaView refrigerator adds a glass panel that lights up when you knock and a door-in-door compartment for items you reach for often. Those features make the door more complex than a plain door, so care is about the panel, the seals and how often the door opens.
Cleaning and daily use
- Clean the glass panel with a soft cloth and a glass-safe cleaner sprayed on the cloth, not on the panel.
- Wipe the gaskets on the main door and the door-in-door with warm water. Sticky spills make the seal grip or tear.
- Do not hang bags or heavy items on the door handle, which can pull the door out of alignment.
- Close the inner door fully after use. If it is left slightly open, warm humid air can enter the main compartment.
A simple seal test
Close the door on a strip of paper and tug it. It should hold with some resistance along the length of the gasket. If it slides out easily in one spot, that part of the seal is not touching. Look for a fold, a dent or buildup before suspecting the door.
What shows a problem
Condensation along the door edge, frost forming near the seal, or a compartment that does not feel as cold as the rest can come from a worn gasket, a door that is slightly off level or an overloaded shelf. In Houston, warm kitchens make these signs show up faster. These signs do not tell us whether the seal or the cooling system is to blame, so we check the gasket, the door alignment and the temperatures together.
Do not tape or glue a loose gasket; that tends to make the gap worse.
