What EID means
EID appears on LG refrigerators with an LED or LCD temperature display and an ice maker in the freezer compartment. It reports a failure of the freezer-compartment ice maker sensor, the sensor the control uses to judge the ice maker's state. The owner sees EID, and ice production may slow, stop, or become irregular, while the refrigerator and freezer keep cooling normally in most cases.
Common causes of EID
- Ice maker sensor in the freezer compartment
- Sensor wire and connector
- Control input for the ice maker
1. Check that the ice bin is seated and the ice maker arm or switch is not stuck in the off position. 2. Look for frost or ice jammed around the ice maker. 3. Keep the freezer door closed for several hours and see whether the display changes. 4. Request service, as no owner steps are listed for EID.
- The sensor circuit may be the cause, but a bad connector or the control could produce the same code.
- We test the ice maker's sensing and quote the repair in writing first.
- We also check that freezer temperatures are normal.
Other Refrigerator codes
Will EID stop cooling?
In most cases, no. The code is about the ice maker sensor, so food usually stays cold. Check freezer temperatures anyway, and call us if anything warms.
Is EID the same as EIU?
They are related but separate. EID is an ice maker sensor failure and EIU is an ice maker assembly failure. We check both when you describe either.
Can I turn the ice maker off?
Many models let you switch it off from the panel or arm. That may keep things quiet until we arrive, but the code can return until the cause is repaired.
Still seeing EID?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
