What r2 means
LG refrigerators with an LED or LCD temperature display, including French door, side-by-side, top-freezer and bottom-freezer styles, use r2 for an anomaly in refrigerator-side temperature detection at the lower part of the fresh-food compartment. The control is not getting a normal reading from the sensor that watches that area, so cooling may run too long, too short, or ignore the temperature you set. The display shows r2, and some models print it as Er r2 or E r2.
Common causes of r2
- Whether the lower fresh-food sensor reads a believable temperature
- The sensor wiring and plug between the sensor and the main board
- Whether the board is reading the sensor circuit correctly
- Airflow into the lower fresh-food area
1. Write down exactly what the display shows, including any Er or E in front of r2. 2. Check that both doors close fully and that no container holds a door or drawer open. 3. Keep the doors shut as much as you can, and move perishable food to a cooler if the compartment starts to warm. 4. Book a visit, since there are no owner repair steps for this code.
- Sensor readings cannot be judged by eye, so we measure what the lower sensor reports against the real air temperature before anything is replaced.
- A wiring or board problem can show the same code as the sensor itself, and we separate the two on the first visit.
- You get the price in writing before work starts, and the repair carries our 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Refrigerator codes
What does r2 mean on an LG refrigerator?
It is an anomaly in the temperature detection at the lower part of the refrigerator section. The control cannot read that sensor normally, which can throw off cooling in the fresh-food side.
Will the food spoil while r2 is showing?
It can if cooling drifts. Check the temperature in the compartment, keep the doors closed, and move perishables to a cooler if it feels warm. Do not wait long before calling us.
Is r2 the same as Er r2?
On these LG models the same code can appear with an Er or E in front, or as the bare pair. They point to the same lower-section sensor reading.
Still seeing r2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
