What rT means
LG refrigerators with an LED or LCD temperature display show rT when the room, or ambient, temperature sensor is shortened or open. This sensor tells the control how warm the kitchen is, so it can adjust cooling, defrost timing and condensation control. With a bad reading the refrigerator may run longer than normal, sweat on the outside, or hold temperatures slightly off. The display shows rT, and some models print Er rT.
Common causes of rT
- The ambient sensor plug and wiring
- Whether the sensor reads in a believable range for the room
- The sensor input on the main board
- Heat sources or blocked airflow near the cabinet
1. Check that the refrigerator has clearance around it and is not pushed against a hot oven or in direct sun. 2. Close both doors firmly and make sure the seals are not folded. 3. Watch the food temperature for a day and move delicate items to a cooler if it climbs. 4. Schedule a visit, since there are no owner repair steps for rT.
- The room sensor is easy to misjudge from outside the cabinet, so we measure it and compare with the actual kitchen temperature.
- A bad ambient reading can make other problems look worse than they are, and we check whether cooling itself is normal.
- You approve the written price before work starts, and the repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Refrigerator codes
What does rT mean on an LG refrigerator?
It means the room temperature sensor is shortened or open. The control is not getting a usable ambient reading, so it cannot adjust cooling to the kitchen temperature the way it should.
Will rT stop the refrigerator from cooling?
Not necessarily. It may keep cooling, but with less accurate timing. You might see more running time or moisture on the outside, so we suggest a check soon.
Does a hot kitchen cause rT?
A warm room does not create the code. It points to the sensor circuit itself, though heat near the cabinet can make cooling work harder.
Still seeing rT?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
