What OFF means
OFF on an LG refrigerator display is the store display, or demo, function. Only power and the display operate, and there is no cooling. It can be triggered by a held temperature button or a wet wipe across the display. The owner sees OFF and a warm refrigerator, so it is easy to mistake for a breakdown. It complements the Demo Mode entry for the same refrigerators.
Common causes of OFF
- Temperature button held down
- Wet cloth pressing keys during cleaning
- Demo function turned on
1. Unplug the refrigerator or switch the breaker off for 10 seconds, then restore power. 2. Use the lock button to lock the control. 3. Dry the panel. 4. Check that cooling starts and the compressor runs. 5. Give the cabinet several hours to cool before judging the result.
- If OFF returns, the keypad could be the cause.
- We test it and quote in writing first.
- Check your food in the meantime.

Why does OFF keep coming back?
A wet or stuck key can re-trigger it. Dry the panel, use the lock button, and avoid wiping the display while the refrigerator is running. If it still returns, the keypad needs testing.
Is the refrigerator broken when it shows OFF?
Probably not. OFF means cooling is switched off by the demo function, so the cabinet warms while the display stays lit. Restoring power and locking the panel usually brings cooling back.
How long before food spoils with OFF?
Without cooling, food warms within hours. Restore power right away, check the temperatures, and move perishables to a cooler if the cabinet has already warmed noticeably.
Still unsure about OFF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
