What CH04 means
CH04 is a drainage alert on LG air conditioners. On ceiling-mounted units it points to the drain pump, a blocked or upward-sloping drain hose, or a dirty filter. On plug-in window and portable units it means the condensate tank is too full, which is more likely on humid or rainy days, and the unit may show FL instead. Cooling can continue on those room units while the alert shows. The owner sees CH04 or FL and sometimes water at the drain port.
Common causes of CH04
- Condensate tank or pan full on a window or portable unit
- Drain hose kinked, blocked, or sloping the wrong way
- Drain pump on a ceiling-mounted unit
- Dirty filter restricting airflow and increasing moisture
1. Unplug the window or portable unit. 2. Drain the condensate through the rear drain port into a pan. 3. Check that any drain hose is not kinked and slopes downhill. 4. Clean the filter; the schedule is every two weeks. 5. Plug the unit back in and watch whether CH04 returns.
- If CH04 shows on dry days with an empty tank, the float switch and drain path need testing.
- On a ceiling unit, we check the drain pump and hose slope rather than assuming a part.
- We write down what we found and give a written price first.
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Is CH04 the same as FL?
On window and portable units, yes. FL is another way of showing the condensate alert, and both mean the tank has filled with water from humid air.
Why does it happen more on rainy days?
Humid air gives the unit far more moisture to pull out of the room, so the condensate tank fills sooner than it does on dry days. Draining it through the rear port normally resets the alert.
When is CH04 a real problem?
If it keeps appearing on dry days even after you drain the unit, something in the drain path or the water level sensing is off. We test the drain route and the level switch to find which one.
Still seeing CH04?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
