What CH54 means
CH54 appears on LG air conditioners that show CH codes, usually split or ceiling-mounted systems with an outdoor unit. It means the unit detected a reversed or missing phase: no voltage coming from one line, or the R, S, and T wiring order reversed. The outdoor unit stops. The code is most often seen after electrical work in the circuit breaker box. Plug-in window and portable units are single phase and are not the usual setting for it.
Common causes of CH54
- Missing voltage on one supply line
- R, S, and T supply wiring order reversed after electrical work
- Breaker or supply connection that has lost a line
1. Reset the air conditioner's circuit breaker once. 2. If the code persists, or appeared after electrical work, tell the electrical contractor who did it. 3. Leave the outdoor unit off until the supply has been checked. 4. Do not open the breaker box or touch the wiring yourself.
- We measure the supply to the outdoor unit with the power on, which is not a homeowner job.
- If the wiring order is wrong, the electrical contractor needs to correct it, and we confirm after.
- We write down what we measured and quote any repair first.

Why does CH54 follow electrical work?
If the supply wires were reconnected in a different order, or one line was left disconnected, the unit detects it. The contractor who did the work is the right person to correct it.
Is it safe to keep trying the breaker?
One reset is reasonable. After that, leave it off and wait for the supply to be checked, because repeated tries with a missing or reversed phase can stress the outdoor unit.
Does my window unit show CH54?
It is mainly a split and ceiling system code, where the outdoor unit runs on phased supply. A plug-in window unit is a different case, so confirm your model type.
Still seeing CH54?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
