What CH61 means
CH61 appears on LG air conditioners that show CH codes. It means the outdoor unit is overheating in cooling, from poor ventilation, an enclosed balcony, or clutter around it, or the indoor unit is overheating in heating, often from a dirty filter. Depending on the model it can display as P4, P6, P7, P8, or CH34. The owner sees the code and the unit stops or cuts back output to protect itself.
Common causes of CH61
- Outdoor unit surrounded by clutter or an enclosed balcony
- Dirty indoor filter in heating mode
- Outdoor fan or heat-exchange path not moving enough air
- Temperature sensor reading
1. Open the balcony ventilation window and clear anything around the outdoor unit. 2. Clean the indoor filter. 3. The error does not clear by itself, so power cycle the unit for five minutes. 4. Restart and watch whether the code returns.
- If it returns with clear airflow and a clean filter, we measure the actual temperatures instead of assuming a sensor.
- We check the outdoor fan and the heat-exchange surfaces for blockage.
- We give a written price before any repair starts.

Why does CH61 happen on a closed balcony?
The outdoor unit needs fresh air to shed heat. In an enclosed space the air around it warms up, and the unit trips the overheating alert.
Will cleaning the filter fix it?
In heating mode, a dirty filter is a named cause. Cleaning it helps, and a power cycle is still needed because the code does not clear by itself.
Is P4 or P8 a different alert?
On some models, P4, P6, P7, P8, and CH34 are just other displays of CH61. The meaning and the checks are the same as for CH61.
Still seeing CH61?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
