What Display Turned Off / Not Turned On means

This is not an error code. It describes an LG air conditioner that shows a dark display and seems not to be on, on units that show CH codes, including window and portable models. The screen brightness has been set to Display OFF. On portable units the Light button cycles through 100 percent, 50 percent, and 0 percent, and the unit may be running even though nothing is lit. The brightness is changed from the remote, because there is no button on the unit for it.

Common causes of Display Turned Off / Not Turned On

Remote batteries weak, so the unit is not answering

✓ One safe check you can try

1. Pick up the remote and press the Light or brightness button. 2. Press it again until the display comes back at the level you like. 3. Listen and feel for airflow to confirm the unit is running. 4. If the remote does nothing, replace its batteries and try once more.

! Why to stop there

If the display stays dark after the brightness is raised and the unit is clearly running, we test the display board and its connection.

Why does my air conditioner look switched off?

The display brightness may be at its lowest step, Display OFF. The unit can still be cooling, so hold your hand near the vent and feel for airflow before assuming the power is off.

Is there a button on the unit to fix it?

No. The brightness is adjusted with the remote only. On portable units the Light button steps through 100, 50, and 0 percent, and pressing it once or twice usually brings the screen back.

Does a dark display mean the unit is broken?

Not by itself. A display that comes back when you press the brightness button was only dimmed. If it never returns and the unit is also silent and warm to the touch, we test it.
