What FL means
FL appears on LG window and portable air conditioners and is another display of CH04. It means the condensate tank has filled with water, which is more common on humid days when the unit removes extra moisture from the room. The owner sees FL on the display, and cooling may continue or pause depending on the model. Drainage through the rear port is the normal way to clear it.
Common causes of FL
- Condensate tank full from humid air
- Drain port plug or hose blocked
- Drain hose kinked or sloping the wrong way
1. Unplug the unit and wait a moment. 2. Place a shallow pan under the rear drain port and let the condensate drain out. 3. Check that any drain hose is straight, free of kinks, and sloping downhill. 4. Plug the unit back in, start cooling, and see whether FL returns.
- If FL comes back soon after draining on a dry day, we test the water level sensing and the drain path.
- We check whether the drain port is partly blocked.
- We give a written price before any repair.

How does FL relate to CH04?
On window and portable units, yes. FL is an alias that shows the same condensate alert as CH04, and the same draining steps apply to both of them.
Why does it show up in summer?
Humid summer air carries a lot of water, and the unit collects it in the tank as it cools the room. The tank fills faster in those conditions and triggers FL sooner.
Is the water leaking into the room?
The alert shows the tank is full, and the unit normally empties through the rear port. If you see water around the unit, drain it and check that the hose path is clear and level.
Still seeing FL?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
