What Hi means
Hi appears on LG air conditioners that show CH codes, mostly on models with a wired remote. It is a room temperature message, not a failure. The display shows Hi when the indoor temperature is 36 degrees C, which is 96.8 degrees F, or higher. The owner sees Hi in place of a number because the reading is above what the display can show as a normal temperature. Once the room cools, the number comes back.
Common causes of Hi
- Room temperature at or above 96.8 degrees F
- Unit just started in a very hot room
1. Let the unit run in cooling mode for a while. 2. Close windows and doors to the hot room. 3. Watch the display change from Hi to a number as the room cools. 4. Keep the filter clean so cooling is steady.
- If Hi stays on even after the room is clearly cooler, we test the room temperature sensor.
- We compare its reading with a thermometer reading.
- You see the result before any repair is quoted in writing.
Other Room Air Conditioner codes
Does Hi mean the air conditioner is failing?
No. It tells you the room is hot, at or above 96.8 degrees F, so the display cannot show a normal number. The reading returns once the room has cooled down.
What is the opposite message?
Lo is the reading shown when the room is very cold. Hi and Lo are both temperature messages for the room, and neither one is an alarm about the unit itself.
Hi stays on in a cool room. What does that mean?
The reading should drop as the room cools. If it does not, the temperature sensor may not be reporting correctly, and we test it against a known reference reading to find out.
Still unsure about Hi?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
