What CH34, P7 means

On some LG air conditioners, CH34 and P7 are alternate ways of showing CH61. The same code can also appear as P4, P6, or P8 depending on the model. CH61 is the overheating alert: the outdoor unit runs too hot while cooling, or the indoor unit runs too hot while heating. The owner sees CH34 or P7 on the display, and the unit may stop or reduce output to protect itself. The meaning and the checks follow CH61.

Common causes of CH34, P7

  • Outdoor unit overheating because airflow around it is restricted
  • Indoor unit overheating in heating from a dirty filter
  • Display style that shows the CH61 alert as CH34 or P7
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Make sure nothing blocks airflow around the outdoor unit, and open balcony ventilation if it sits in an enclosed space. 2. Clean the indoor filter. 3. Switch the unit off for five minutes to power cycle it. 4. Restart and see whether CH34 or P7 returns.

! Why to stop there
  • The alert does not clear by itself, so a returning code means the heat problem is still there and we measure it.
  • We check the condenser airflow and the fan before looking at the sensors.
  • We quote the repair in writing before any work.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
CH34, P7CH34, P7 questions
Why do I see P7 instead of CH61?

Some models show the same overheating alert with a different label, such as P4, P6, P7, P8, or CH34. The label depends on the display, and the meaning stays the same.

What should I check first?

Look for anything crowding the outdoor unit, such as clutter or a closed balcony window, and clean the indoor filter. Poor airflow is the main thing that raises the temperature.

Will the code clear on its own?

No. It stays until you power cycle the unit for about five minutes. If the cause remains, the code comes back and we test the heat path.
