What Co / SC means
Co and SC appear on LG air conditioners with auto drying, which includes some window and portable units. The code is not an error. After you turn the unit off, it may run the fan for about ten minutes to dry the inside surfaces, and the display shows SC or Co while it does. Owners often notice the fan still moving or weak airflow after pressing off and wonder whether something is stuck. The unit is finishing a normal drying routine.
Common causes of Co / SC
- Auto drying routine running after shut-off
- Fan operating on purpose to dry the coil
1. Leave the unit alone and let the drying routine finish. 2. Watch that the display returns to normal after about ten minutes. 3. If you want the unit fully off, wait until the routine ends before unplugging it, and then check that the fan stays quiet.
- If SC or Co stays on for far longer than the drying time, we test the timer and the fan control.
- If the fan runs with the unit off and the display clear, we check the control board relay.
- We explain the result and quote in writing first.

Why is the fan still running after I turned the unit off?
Auto drying keeps the fan going for about ten minutes to clear moisture from the inside of the unit. It is a normal part of the cycle and not a sign that anything is stuck.
Is Co different from SC?
They both show that auto drying is running. Which one you see depends on the display style of your model, so treat either one as the normal drying notice.
Can I stop the drying early?
It is better to let it finish, because the routine limits dampness inside the cabinet. Unplugging in the middle simply leaves that moisture behind, so wait the ten minutes.
Still unsure about Co / SC?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
