What PE means

PE appears on certain older LG dishwashers. It means there is an issue with the water level sensor, the part that tells the control how much water is in the tub. Without a reliable reading, the control cannot fill to the right level or stop filling at the right moment, so the cycle stops and the code shows. Codes can differ by model, and not every LG dishwasher uses this code. The sensor sits inside the machine, so it needs a technician.

Common causes of PE

  • Water level sensor
  • Sensor tubing or connector
  • Control input that reads the sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Cancel the cycle and let any water drain. 2. Open the door and check that the tub is not overfilled or empty. 3. Do not open panels or reach below the tub. 4. Wash by hand until the repair. 5. Call us and give us the model number.

! Why to stop there
  • We test whether the sensor reads the water level correctly and whether the connection is sound.
  • A sensor and its control can give the same code, so we check both.
  • We watch a full fill and wash before we finish.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
PEPE questions
Is PE on every LG dishwasher?

No. It applies to certain older models. If your dishwasher is newer and shows PE, tell us the exact model number so we can check what the code means on it.

Can I fix a level sensor myself?

No. It sits inside the machine near wiring. Stay outside the housing and let us test it. Opening the housing puts you near live wiring and water, so please leave that to us and describe what the display shows.

Will the dishwasher still fill?

It may fill, but it may not stop at the right level. We would not run it until it has been checked, to avoid overfilling.
