What CF means
CF, which can show as Er CF or E CF, appears on LG refrigerators with an LED or LCD temperature display. It means the condenser fan motor in the sealed-system compartment at the rear is not operating. The control stops getting the fan's feedback signal for more than 65 seconds. The refrigerator may run warm or noisy because the condenser is not being cooled, and wiring or the main board may be involved.
Common causes of CF
- Condenser fan motor in the rear compartment
- Wiring and connector to the fan
- Main board fan output and feedback
1. Unplug the refrigerator for about 5 minutes, then plug it back in to reset. 2. Pull the refrigerator out only if you can do it safely, and check that nothing obstructs the rear air path. 3. The code may disappear after power-off and return in about 3 hours. 4. If CF returns, request service.
- A reset can clear the display without telling us why the fan stopped.
- We check the fan, its wiring, and the board feedback and quote the repair in writing first.
- We never open the sealed system for this check.
Other Refrigerator codes
Why did CF go away and come back?
The code can disappear after power-off and return in about 3 hours if the cause is still there. That pattern points us to the fan circuit rather than a one-time glitch.
Does CF mean the compressor is bad?
No. CF refers to the condenser fan. A stopped fan can still strain cooling, so we check that the compressor is running normally while we are there.
How long can I wait for repair?
Keep the doors closed and watch temperatures. If the freezer starts to soften or the fridge warms, move food to a cooler and call us so we can check the fan sooner.
Still seeing CF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
