What CO means
CO, which may show as Er CO or E CO, appears on LG refrigerators with an LED or LCD temperature display. It means the main control board and the display are not communicating, and the problem may be temporary, so the code sometimes clears after power is cut. The owner sees CO, and the panel may be blank, frozen, or unresponsive, while the refrigerator itself often keeps cooling in the meantime.
Common causes of CO
- Connector between the main board and display
- Display board
- Main board communication output
1. Unplug the refrigerator for about 5 minutes, then plug it back in to reset. 2. Check that the plug is firmly seated in the outlet. 3. Keep the doors closed during the wait so the food stays cold. 4. Press a panel key and see whether the display responds again. 5. If CO returns, request service.
- A reset can clear a temporary link problem but cannot tell us which board or cable is behind it.
- We test the link and quote any repair in writing before work starts.
- If cooling is affected, we check that in the same visit.
Other Refrigerator codes
Is CO a real problem if it clears?
A single appearance may be temporary, and the manufacturer notes it may clear. If CO returns after the reset, there is likely a lasting link problem, and we trace the connection between the boards.
Will the fridge keep cooling with CO?
Often, yes, because cooling is handled separately from the panel in many cases. Check temperatures with a thermometer, though, and call us if either compartment starts to warm.
Can I use the display while CO shows?
The buttons may not respond. After the reset, test them again. If the panel stays dead or the code comes back, we should look at the display, its connector, and the main board.
Still seeing CO?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
