LG Dryer Leaves Clothes Damp After Sensor Dry: Cleaning the Moisture Sensor Bars

Sensor Dry cycles stop when the dryer thinks clothes are done. Film on the metal sensor bars can fool it. Here is how to clean them and what else to rule out.

Sensor Dry cycles rely on metal strips inside the drum that sense moisture in the load by touch. When a coating of fabric softener or dryer-sheet residue builds up on those strips, the dryer can read clothes as drier than they are and shut off early. Cleaning them is a five-minute job.

How to clean the sensor bars

  1. Unplug the dryer.
  2. Find the two curved metal strips inside the drum near the door opening or at the rear, as shown in your manual.
  3. Wipe them with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol or a mild cleaner. Do not scrub with abrasive pads.
  4. Let them dry, plug in the dryer and run a Sensor Dry cycle with a normal load.

Other reasons for a damp finish

  • An overstuffed drum that prevents tumbling.
  • A lint screen coated in a thin film; wash it with soap and water, since dryer sheets can leave a layer you cannot see.
  • A restricted duct. If a cycle takes far longer than it used to, clothes are damp and the room feels warm, airflow is the next place to look.

What cannot be concluded from the sign alone

Clean bars and a clear duct with damp clothes still point at the heat side, a sensor wire or the control itself. We cannot tell which from the laundry. Try a timed dry setting on a few loads: if timed drying works but Sensor Dry does not, the sensing is the issue, and if neither dries well, heat or airflow is.

Write down which cycles fail and whether the dryer is gas or electric; that shortens the visit. We check airflow, heat and sensing in turn, and we report what we find before any repair begins.

Book from the dryer repair page and confirm coverage in the service area. Windows run three hours, the price is written before work and labor is warranted for 30 days.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
