LG dryers come as electric, gas, heat-pump and dual-unit models, and many are paired with a matching washer or stacked in a WashTower. The basics are airflow, heat and a drum that turns freely, and most calls come back to one of those three.

In Houston, long vent runs through attics and walls collect lint, and humid air makes lint clump and settle. Hot garages and closets raise cabinet temperatures, and storms can interrupt a cycle and trip protection devices that keep the dryer from restarting until they cool.

We check the vent path first, then the lint screen, the airflow sensing, the heater or gas valve, the thermal protection, the belt, rollers and motor. We tell you which parts are worn, which are fine and whether a cleaning visit would solve more than a repair.

05Dryer questions
The dryer runs but my clothes stay damp. What should I check?

Start with the lint screen and the vent hose behind the machine. A crushed hose or a clogged outside vent traps moist air and stretches cycle times. If airflow is clear and the dryer still will not dry, the heating system or a sensor may need testing.

Is a burning smell dangerous?

Treat it seriously. Stop the dryer, unplug it or shut off the gas, and check for lint around the vent and inside the cabinet. Lint buildup is a common cause of heat and odor. Do not run it again until the vent is cleared and we have looked at it.

Do heat-pump models work differently?

Yes. A heat-pump dryer recycles warm air in a closed loop instead of venting it, so it is gentler and slower, and it needs a clean condenser filter and a drain path. Longer cycles can be normal, but a sudden change is worth a check.
