What tE1, tE2, tE3, tE4, tE5, tE6 means

On LG electric, gas, heat-pump, and steam dryers, the codes tE1 through tE6 report a problem with the dryer thermistor, the temperature sensor that tells the control how hot the air is. The list gives one description for all six, so the number does not tell us which sensor is involved. The tE2 code can also appear during SteamFresh, Steam Sanitary, or Steam Option cycles when the duct cools down too quickly in cold conditions.

Common causes of tE1, tE2, tE3, tE4, tE5, tE6

  • A thermistor reading that is out of range
  • A wire or connector to the thermistor that is loose
  • Poor airflow making temperatures read wrong
  • For tE2 only: a steam cycle in a cold room cooling the duct
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker. With power off, press and hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds. 2. Restore power and run a cycle. 3. For tE2, also clean the lint filter and check the vent and the exhaust flappers. 4. Make sure the lint filter is clean and seated before the next cycle.

! Why to stop there
  • Six numbers share one description, so we test the sensor circuit to find which thermistor is involved.
  • A tE2 that appears only on steam cycles in cold weather may be a condition and not a failed part, and we ask about that first.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
tE1, tE2, tE3, tE4, tE5, tE6tE1, tE2, tE3, tE4, tE5, tE6 questions
Do tE1 to tE6 mean different parts?

The list describes all six as a thermistor problem. It does not say which number belongs to which sensor, so we test the circuit to find out. The wording for all six numbers is identical.

Why does tE2 show on a steam cycle?

During SteamFresh, Steam Sanitary, or Steam Option cycles, the duct can cool too quickly in cold conditions and tE2 appears. In that case the cold surroundings can be the reason, and not a failed part.

Will resetting fix a tE code?

A reset clears a one-time reading. If the code returns, the thermistor or its wiring needs testing, and cleaning the vent first is a good habit. Take the load out while the code is showing.
