What CL E / Er CL means
CL E, E CL, or Er CL on an LG refrigerator with an LED or LCD display reports a refrigerant leak on the low side, at the evaporator. The newer description matches Er CH: insufficient cooling or an abnormal internal temperature caused by low refrigerant, a leak, a compressor or valve problem, a blockage, or doors left open. CL alone on other LG appliances means child lock, so the leak meaning applies only when CL is shown with E or Er.
Common causes of CL E / Er CL
- Door gaskets and doors left ajar
- Low refrigerant or an evaporator leak
- Compressor, valve, or blockage affecting cooling
1. Close both doors fully and clear anything holding them open. 2. Unplug the refrigerator for 5 minutes and restart it. 3. After a repair, allow 24 hours for temperatures to settle. 4. Keep the doors shut as much as you can and protect perishables. 5. If the code stays, request service.
- The code cannot tell us whether the cause is a leak, a blockage, or a compressor problem.
- We inspect cooling performance before quoting and give a written price first.
- Any sealed-system work is explained to you before it starts.
Other Refrigerator codes
Does CL on another LG appliance mean the same thing?
No. CL alone on other LG appliances is child lock, a user setting. On a refrigerator, the leak meaning applies when CL appears together with E or Er, such as CL E or Er CL.
Is CL E the same as CH E?
They share the same cause list, but CL E points to the low side, at the evaporator, and CH E to the high side, at the condenser. We check both areas during one visit and explain which one applies.
What should I do with my food?
Keep the doors closed and check temperatures. If the fresh-food or freezer section warms, move perishables to a cooler while you arrange the inspection, and tell us how long the code has been showing.
