What E6 means

E6 shows on LG top-load washers with an alphanumeric display, and on blinking-LED models. It is an error about the clutch. It can occur when a coin or other foreign object is stuck between the pulsator and the tub. The owner sees E6 and the washer stops agitating or spinning, usually with the load still wet. The unit may hum or click without turning the drum when the clutch cannot do its job.

Common causes of E6

  • Coin or object wedged between pulsator and tub
  • Small item such as a zipper or clip in the seam
  • Clutch problem if nothing is stuck
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Remove the laundry from the tub. 2. Inspect the seam between the drum and the pulsator. 3. Remove any coin, zipper or clip you find with pliers. 4. Restart the washer with a small load. 5. Keep the washer unplugged while your hands are near the tub. 6. Request service if E6 returns.

! Why to stop there
  • With the seam clear, a returning E6 leaves the clutch itself as the question.
  • We test how the tub and pulsator move, check for hidden objects, and quote the repair in writing first.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E6E6 questions
What object usually causes E6?

Coins, zipper pulls and clips are the usual ones. They can slip into the seam between the pulsator and the tub and block the clutch. A small object can lock the pulsator against the tub, and the washer then stops the cycle to protect itself.

Do I need tools to check for E6?

Pliers help to pull out a stuck coin, zipper or clip from the seam. Keep the washer unplugged while you work near the tub. Reach only for what you can see in the seam, and keep the washer unplugged while you do it.

What if nothing is stuck and E6 stays?

Then the clutch needs inspection. We check how it engages, explain what we see, and give a written price before work. We turn the tub by hand, look for hidden items, and tell you what is happening before any repair starts.
