What E1 means

E1 on an LG dishwasher is another way of showing the AE code. It means there is a leak inside the dishwasher, and water has reached the float switch in the base. The control stops the cycle and drains to keep water from spreading. Finding where the water comes from is the real task, whether it is suds, an unlevel unit, a door that sits off, or a seal or hose that is weeping. The dishwasher will not run normally until the base is dry.

Common causes of E1

  • Water in the base that lifts the float switch
  • Unlevel unit or poor door seal
  • Suds or the wrong detergent
  • Hose or connection that weeps
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Open the door and let any water drain. 2. Check that the dishwasher sits level. 3. Use dishwasher pods or proper dishwasher detergent, never dish soap. 4. Dry the drain pan in the base with a towel, reaching only where you can see. 5. Run a short cycle. If E1 returns, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • If the base is dry and E1 returns, the float switch or its wiring may be reporting a leak that is not there.
  • If water returns, we trace it to the hose, seal or pump.
  • We run a full cycle and watch the base before we leave.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E1E1 questions
Is E1 the same as AE?

Yes. On LG dishwashers both point to the same leak condition. Whichever your display shows, the float switch in the base has been lifted by water.

Is it safe to keep running the dishwasher?

We would stop. If water is leaking, running more cycles can damage the floor and cabinet. Dry the base, find the cause, and only then run it again.

Can pods help?

Pods and proper detergent help because they make a normal amount of suds. Dish soap does not. If suds were the cause, a clean rinse after switching should keep E1 away.
