What F3 means

On LG electric and gas ranges with a numeric F-code display, F3 is listed as a touch pad sensor key error. A key on the control panel is being read wrongly, and the range can ignore presses, or act as if a key is held down. LG's microwave oven also uses an F3 code, but for foreign matter on its touch panel, so the same characters belong to a different appliance there.

Common causes of F3

  • A touch key that is reading as pressed
  • A panel that is damp or has residue
  • A panel connection that is not communicating
  • A damaged touch pad
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the circuit breaker off for 30 seconds and back on. 2. Wipe the control panel with a dry soft cloth once the range has power again. 3. If F3 returns, stop using the touch controls and call us. 4. Do not press hard on the keys, since that does not help the reading.

! Why to stop there
  • F3 does not tell us whether the keys, the panel, or the control is responsible, so we test the keypad first.
  • A key that works only sometimes can be a connection problem, and we look at the cable before the panel.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F3F3 questions
What does F3 mean on my range?

A touch pad key is not reading correctly. The control may think a key is stuck. Presses may be ignored, or the range may act as though a key is held down.

My microwave also shows F3. Are they linked?

No. A microwave F3 relates to its own touch panel, while a range F3 is about the range touch pad. The two appliances use the same characters for different parts.

Can I clean my way out of it?

Wiping the panel is safe. If F3 comes back, the keypad or its connection needs testing. Use a dry cloth first, then the 30-second breaker reset.
