What HS means
HS on an LG refrigerator with an LED or LCD temperature display means the humidity sensor is shorted or disconnected. This is separate from the HS code on dryers, which refers to a humidity sensor drying cycle of about 2.5 hours. On a refrigerator the control simply loses its humidity reading. The owner sees HS, and cooling usually carries on, though humidity-related controls may act unpredictably.
Common causes of HS
- Humidity sensor
- Sensor wiring and connector
- Control board sensor input
1. Note the code and take a photo of the display. 2. Keep the doors closed and check temperatures. 3. Do not remove interior panels. 4. Wipe the panel dry and avoid pressing keys repeatedly. 5. Request service, because no owner steps are listed for HS.
- A lost reading could mean the sensor, the wire, or the board.
- We test the sensor circuit and quote in writing before any part is ordered.
- We confirm cooling is normal during the visit.
Other Refrigerator codes
Is HS the same as the dryer code?
No. On dryers HS refers to a humidity sensor and a cycle of about 2.5 hours. On a refrigerator it is a humidity sensor that is shorted or disconnected, so the meanings do not carry over.
Will HS affect my food?
Cooling often continues, so food may be fine. Check temperatures with a thermometer anyway, and call us if either compartment warms or you notice moisture build-up inside.
Can I clear it by unplugging?
LG lists no owner steps for HS. Unplugging may not help if the sensor circuit is the cause, so photograph the display and let us test the sensor and its connector.
Still seeing HS?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
