What Demo Mode / Display Mode means
On LG refrigerators with an LED or LCD temperature display, Demo Mode, also called Display Mode, is not an error. It disables all cooling and the panel shows OFF. It is a showroom setting, and it is sometimes turned on by accident while pressing buttons. If the refrigerator is warm and the panel reads OFF, this mode is the first thing to rule out before assuming a breakdown.
Common causes of Demo Mode / Display Mode
- Demo or Display Mode switched on from the control panel
- Keys held down while cleaning or testing the panel
1. On the list-style panel, open a refrigerator door, then press and hold REFRIGERATOR and ICE PLUS for 5 seconds. 2. On the digital-style panel, hold FRIDGE and press Express FRZ 3 times. 3. Some models need both keys held together for 3 seconds instead. 4. Check that the display no longer reads OFF and the compressor starts. 5. Give it time to cool and check the temperatures.
- Two different button sequences exist depending on the panel, so we confirm which one your model uses.
- If OFF stays, we look at the keypad and control.
- We give a written price first if a repair is needed.

Why does my fridge say OFF and not cool?
Demo Mode turns off all cooling and leaves only the panel running. It is meant for store displays, and it can be switched on by holding certain keys.
Which keys turn Demo Mode off?
It depends on the panel. One style uses REFRIGERATOR and ICE PLUS held for 5 seconds with a door open, and another uses FRIDGE and Express FRZ. Try the one that matches your buttons.
What if the sequence does not work?
Then the keypad or control may need a look. Keep the doors shut, move food to a cooler if it warms, and call us so we can test it.
