What PS means
PS shows on LG front-load washers with an alphanumeric display, including the washer half of a WashTower and the WashCombo. It reports a power supply issue: the washer stops because it cannot continue the program. On some units it can be shown as P5. The owner sees PS appear mid-cycle or at start, and the washer will not run until power to it is stable.
Common causes of PS
- Power strip or extension cord feeding the washer
- Unstable supply at the outlet
- Power input to the control
1. Do not use a power strip. 2. Plug the washer directly into the wall outlet. 3. Leave the washer unplugged for a full minute. 4. Plug it back in and restart. 5. Check that the cord is not pinched behind the washer. 6. Check that no other large appliance shares the same outlet.
- If the washer is on a dedicated wall outlet and PS returns, we cannot tell whether the outlet or the washer is dropping power.
- We check the outlet, the cord and the power input, and give a written price before work.

Why not use a power strip for PS?
A strip can limit or interrupt the supply the washer needs. Plugging directly into the wall outlet removes that variable. The washer needs steady power to carry on with its program, and strips or long cords can cause trouble.
Is P5 the same as PS?
PS can also be shown as P5. The two look alike on the display, so we treat them as one condition. P5 and PS look similar on the display, so we treat them as the same condition.
Should I reset the breaker for PS?
If the outlet seems to lose power, tell us. Do not open the electrical panel yourself. We check the washer side and advise on the outlet. Never open the electrical panel yourself. Tell us what happens and we will check the washer side first.
Still seeing PS?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
