What Sud means
Sud appears on LG front-load washers with an alphanumeric display, including the WashTower washer half and the WashCombo. It means the washer detected too many suds. It adds a suds-reducing cycle, which makes the wash about 2 hours longer, and if there are too many suds during spin, it stops. The owner sees Sud and a cycle that takes much longer than usual.
Common causes of Sud
- Too much detergent for the load
- Detergent that is not high-efficiency
- Soap residue from earlier loads
1. Use less HE detergent. 2. Follow the dosing guidance for liquid, powder or pods. 3. Use one pod in the drum, not several. 4. Rerun the load with the smaller amount. 5. Wipe the drum and the gasket area for leftover soap before the next load.
- If suds persist with correct dosing, we cannot tell whether the cause is residue, water or the sensing.
- We check the drum, the dosing and the water level reading before we recommend anything.
Other Washer codes
Why does the cycle run so long with Sud?
The washer adds a suds-reducing step that adds about 2 hours. That is the washer working, not stalling. Suds slow the wash, and the washer adds a lengthy suds-reducing step to protect the cycle.
How much detergent should I use?
Follow the dosing guidance for liquid, powder or pods, and use HE detergent. With pods, one in the drum is the guidance. HE detergent is made for low water use. Regular soap or too much of any soap creates the foam.
Does Sud mean the washer is broken?
Usually not. Too much detergent is the common reason. If Sud returns with a small dose, we take a closer look. If suds appear with the correct dose, we check the drum, the water level and the cycle settings.
