What Add means
Add appears on LG steam dryers, electric, gas or heat pump, and reads Add Water. The steam feeder needs water up to its MAX line before or during a steam cycle. LG's code list calls it a water supply error, while the dedicated guidance treats it as a refill prompt, and both readings fit: the dryer is telling you the feeder is short of water. Nothing is broken in most cases. The cycle waits until you refill the feeder and restart the steam program.
Common causes of Add
- Steam feeder not filled to the MAX line
- Feeder drawer not fully closed
- Distilled water or an unsuitable fill
- Water path from the feeder to the steam generator
1. Open the steam feeder drawer. 2. Fill it with tap water up to the MAX line. Do not use distilled water. 3. Close the drawer firmly. 4. Restart the STEAM cycle. 5. If Add returns right away with a full feeder, call us.
- If Add returns with a full feeder, the water is not reaching the steam generator or the level reading is wrong.
- We check the feeder, the drawer seat and the water path.
- We run a steam cycle and confirm steam before we finish.
Other Dryer codes
Why does my dryer ask for water?
Steam models make steam from water you add to the feeder. Add means the feeder is low, so fill it to the MAX line with tap water and restart the steam cycle.
Can I use distilled water?
No. Use tap water. Distilled water may not register properly with the dryer, and Add may keep coming back. If Add keeps showing after a proper refill, tell us what water you used so we can check the feeder.
Is Add an error?
Usually it is a refill prompt. If it keeps showing with a full feeder and a closed drawer, then the level reading or water path needs a test, and we do that with the price in writing first.
Still unsure about Add?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
