What CL means

CL on an LG dryer means the child lock is on. It is not an error. The lock can only be turned on while a dry cycle is running, and it stays on after the cycle ends until you turn it off. While it is on, the controls are locked, which can make the dryer seem unresponsive when you try to start another load. The dryer itself is working. You turn the lock off from the panel, with the power on, by holding the button.

Common causes of CL

  • Child lock turned on during a cycle
  • Lock left on after the cycle ended
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Make sure the dryer has power and the panel is lit. 2. Hold the Child Lock button for 3 to 5 seconds. 3. Check that CL disappears from the display. 4. Try a program to confirm the controls respond. 5. If the lock will not release, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • If the lock will not release, we check the panel button and the control.
  • We confirm that all buttons respond after the lock is off.
  • We run a short cycle before we finish.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

CLCL questions
Why does my dryer ignore the buttons?

The child lock may be on. CL on the display means the controls are locked until you turn it off by holding the Child Lock button for 3 to 5 seconds.

Can I turn the lock on anytime?

It can only be enabled while a dry cycle is running. Once the cycle ends it stays on until you turn it off. That is why people often find it still on the next day, so release it by holding the button before you start a new load.

Does CL mean the dryer is broken?

No. It means the lock is active. If holding the button does not release it, we check the panel and the control. Try the hold again with the power on, and if the controls stay locked, we check the panel and its connection.
