What EE means
On LG dryers that use the blinking-LED error list, EE points to the memory chip on the main control board, the EEPROM that holds the dryer's settings and cycle data. The board cannot read its own stored information correctly, so the dryer may refuse to start, stop partway through a cycle, or keep showing EE. This is a control-board condition. It is not a lint, venting, or heating problem, so cleaning the vent will not clear it.
Common causes of EE
- A one-time memory glitch left behind by a power event
- Main control board memory that no longer reads back correctly
- A loose or corroded connector between the board and the display
- A control board that needs replacement
1. Unplug the dryer from the wall outlet and leave it unplugged for 10 minutes. 2. Plug it back in firmly and start a short cycle to see whether EE returns. 3. If the code comes straight back, stop using the dryer and let us look at it, because the board itself may need replacing.
- If EE returns after the 10-minute unplug, the board memory is still unreadable, and only testing shows whether a connector repair or a new board is the right answer.
- We confirm the board is the cause before anything is ordered, so you are not paying for a part the dryer does not need.
Other Dryer codes
What does EE mean on an LG dryer?
It means the main control board has a problem with its EEPROM, the chip that stores settings. It is a board condition, so vent cleaning and filter changes do not affect it.
Will unplugging the dryer fix EE?
Sometimes. The first step is to unplug it for 10 minutes and try again. If EE comes back, the board may need to be replaced, and we check it first.
Is it safe to keep running the dryer with EE?
It is better not to. The board is what controls heat and the drum, and it cannot read its stored data reliably. Leave the dryer off until we have checked it.
Still seeing EE?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
