What IE means
IE on an LG dishwasher is an inlet error. It means the tub is not getting the amount of water it expects. The most common reasons are a water outage, a bent inlet hose, or a closed inlet valve, and the same code appears in other LG articles about IE. Codes can differ by model. The dishwasher stops filling, shows IE, and waits. Because most of the likely causes sit outside the machine at the tap and hose, a few checks often solve it.
Common causes of IE
- Water supply off or interrupted
- Bent or kinked inlet hose
- Closed inlet or shut-off valve
- Clogged inlet screen or inlet valve
1. Check that other taps in the house have water. 2. Look at the inlet hose behind the dishwasher for a bend or kink and straighten it. 3. Open the shut-off valve under the sink by turning it counter-clockwise. 4. Restart a short cycle. 5. If IE returns, call us.
- With water present and the hose straight, the inlet valve or the fill sensing is next.
- We check whether the valve opens and how much water reaches the tub.
- We watch a full fill before we finish.
Other Dishwasher codes
Which way do I turn the valve?
Turn the shut-off valve counter-clockwise to open it. If you are not sure it is open, check that the handle lines up with the pipe, and test the sink tap for water.
Can a kinked hose cause IE?
Yes. A bend in the inlet hose can cut the water flow enough to trigger IE. Straighten it gently and check that it is not pinched against the wall.
What if the valve is open and the hose is fine?
Then the inlet valve or the fill sensing may be the cause, and we test them. You get the price in writing before we replace anything.
Still seeing IE?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
