What BE means
On LG dryers, bE points to a problem with the drum drive belt. The belt turns the drum, so when it is slipping, loose or broken, the drum stops rotating and the control shows the code. The heading uses BE and the body text uses bE, so you may see either on the display. The cycle halts, and clothes sit wet and still in the drum. Because the belt sits behind the drum and cabinet panels, we handle this repair rather than asking an owner to open the dryer.
Common causes of BE
- Drum drive belt worn, slipping or broken
- Belt tensioner or idler
- Drive motor that cannot turn the drum
1. Stop the cycle and unplug the dryer. 2. Leave it unplugged for 60 seconds, then restart it. 3. Try turning the drum by hand with the door open, only if the machine is unplugged and cool. 4. If the drum does not turn or bE returns, stop and call us. 5. Take the wet clothes out and dry them elsewhere.
- We check whether the drum turns freely and whether the belt is intact.
- A seized motor or tensioner can mimic a bad belt, so we test the whole drive.
- We run a full cycle and confirm the drum turns smoothly before we finish.
Other Dryer codes
Does the restart fix a broken belt?
No. Unplugging for 60 seconds can clear a one-time glitch, but a broken belt stays broken. If the drum does not spin after the restart, call us.
Why does the dryer hum but not turn?
The motor may run while a broken belt leaves the drum still. That is a common sign of a belt problem. Stop the dryer so the motor does not strain.
Is BE the same as bE?
Yes. LG writes it both ways, and they refer to the same drum belt problem on the same dryers. The heading and the body text of the code list use different capitals, so do not worry if your display looks different from what you read.
Still seeing BE?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
