What F means
On LG refrigerators, a lone F on the display is the short form of FF, also shown as Er FF or E FF. It means the freezer fan is blocked by ice or frost. The owner sees F, the freezer may warm, and the refrigerator section may follow because the fan moves cold air through both. A noisy freezer or frost on the back panel often goes along with it.
Common causes of F
- Ice or frost around the freezer fan
- Freezer fan motor
- Defrost system that should clear the frost
1. Remove the food and put it in a cooler. 2. Unplug the refrigerator. 3. Leave both doors open for 24 hours so the ice can melt. 4. Wipe up the water, plug it in, and let it cool again. 5. If the code returns, request service.
- Frost around the fan usually has a reason, such as a defrost problem or a door that does not seal.
- We look for what is making the ice and give a written price first.
- A single melt may clear it for a while.
Other Refrigerator codes
Is F the same as FF?
Yes. LG shows Er FF, E FF, or just F for the same freezer fan problem. If you see a single F on your panel, treat it as the freezer fan code and not as a different message.
Why is there ice around the fan?
Ice builds when the defrost system is not clearing frost or when warm, humid air gets in through a door that does not seal. A manual defrost clears it, but we look for the cause.
How long until it cools again?
After a full defrost, plan on a day or more for normal temperatures. Keep food in a cooler until the freezer is cold again, and check it with a thermometer before moving food back.
Still seeing F?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
