What HI means
HI is a warning on LG refrigerators with an LED or LCD temperature display. It tells you the surrounding room temperature has risen above 50 C, which is 122 F. It is not a breakdown code. The owner sees HI, and the refrigerator may struggle to hold its set temperatures because the room is so hot. A heat source nearby or a blocked air path around the cabinet can add to it.
Common causes of HI
- Hot room or nearby heat source
- Poor airflow around the refrigerator
- Sensor reading the room temperature
1. Check that the room is not extremely hot. 2. Move any heat source, such as a space heater, away from the refrigerator. 3. Make sure there is open airflow around the sides and top. 4. Let the room cool and see whether HI leaves the display.
- If HI shows in a normal room, we would test the sensor and the control.
- We give a written price first for any repair.
- The warning itself needs no repair.
Other Refrigerator codes
Is HI a failure?
No. It is a warning that the ambient temperature is very high. When the room cools, the warning should go away on its own, and you do not need a repair for that.
Why would HI show in a normal room?
A temperature of 122 F is far above a normal house, so HI in an ordinary room is worth a look. A sensor or control may be reading wrong, and we can test it.
Will my food spoil?
The refrigerator may work harder in a hot room, so check temperatures with a thermometer. If the room stays hot, protect perishables and move the refrigerator somewhere cooler.
Still unsure about HI?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
