What FE, E04, E12 means
On LG front-load washers with an alphanumeric display, FE, E04 and E12 mean the washer is overfilling, and extra water may come through the detergent dispenser. On LG top-load washers with an alphanumeric display, FE means an overfilled tub was detected. The WashTower washer half and the WashCombo are included. The owner sees the code and the cycle stops. A cycle stops once the washer notices the tub holds more water than it should.
Common causes of FE, E04, E12
- Water continuing to enter after the level is reached
- Water-level sensor not reporting correctly
- Extra water leaving through the detergent dispenser
1. Front-load: look in the dispenser for extra water. 2. Pull the plug and wait a full minute. 3. Run the Quick 30 cycle on a front-load washer. 4. Top-load: unplug and plug back in, and watch whether the tub keeps overfilling. 5. If it keeps overfilling, request service.
- A tub that keeps overfilling points at the water-level sensor, but we cannot name it from the display alone.
- We check the fill path and the sensor, then give a written price before work.
Other Washer codes
Do FE, E04 and E12 all mean the same thing?
On front-load washers they are listed as the same overfill condition. On a top-load washer, FE is the one shown, for an overfilled tub. The three front-load codes are listed together, and top-load washers use FE alone for a tub that is overfull.
Is it safe to keep using the washer with FE?
If water keeps coming in, stop the washer and unplug it. Do not keep running cycles while the tub is overfilling. Unplug the washer if you see water rising, then use the checks above before you try another cycle.
What do you look at for repeated overfilling?
The water-level sensor is the likely area on a top-load washer, and we also check the fill path. We explain what we find before you approve any work. We inspect the fill path and the level sensor, and the written price comes before any repair work.
