What AE means
AE means two different things on LG washers with an alphanumeric display. On front-load washers, including the washer half of a WashTower and WashCombo, it means leakage was detected inside the machine and the safety switch is active. On top-load washers it is a rotation error: the gears that turn the drum cannot operate, often because a foreign object sits between the wash plate and the drum.
Common causes of AE
- Front-load: a leak, a loose or damaged inlet hose, or the leak safety switch
- Front-load: water in the base of the machine
- Top-load: a coin or object between the wash plate and drum
- Top-load: gears that cannot turn the drum
1. Front-load: close the water taps and check the inlet hoses for loose connections or cuts. 2. Then unplug the washer for 60 seconds and restart it. 3. Top-load: unplug first, then remove trapped coins or objects with tweezers. 4. If water is on the floor, keep the washer unplugged until it is inspected.
- On a front-load, a leak detected inside means we find where the water is getting in before the machine is used again.
- On a top-load, we check whether the drum drive is free once any object is out, because it can be damaged.
- We state the price in writing first, and our repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Washer codes
Does AE mean the same thing on every LG washer?
No. On front-load washers it means leakage inside the machine. On top-load washers it means a rotation error where the drum gears cannot turn, so the first check depends on which kind of washer you own.
What should I do first for a front-load AE?
Check the inlet hoses for loose connections or cuts, then unplug the washer for 60 seconds and restart. If there is water on the floor, keep it unplugged until it is inspected.
What can block a top-load from turning with AE?
Often a coin or small object between the wash plate and drum. Unplug the washer first, then remove it with tweezers. If AE stays after that, the gears and drive need checking by a technician.
