What Ed5 means
Ed5 is shown on LG front-load washers with an alphanumeric display and the ezDispense automatic dispenser, and it is not about liquids. The PCB does not work properly because of poor communication, so the control reports a communication issue. The WashTower washer half and the WashCombo can show it. The owner sees Ed5 and the dispenser function, and sometimes the whole cycle, is held back.
Common causes of Ed5
- Poor communication between boards
- Brief interruption after a power dip
- Connection between the dispenser module and the control
1. Take the plug out of the outlet and leave the washer without power for 60 seconds. 2. Plug it back in. 3. Restart a cycle. 4. Write down the cycle and any other code on the display when Ed5 appeared. 5. Make sure the power cord is pushed in firmly at the outlet. 6. Request service if Ed5 persists.
- A code that survives a power cycle leaves a connection, a board or the dispenser module as the open question.
- We test the communication path and tell you the finding and price before replacing anything.
Other Washer codes
Why does an ezDispense code mention communication?
Ed5 is a different type from Ed1 to Ed4. It tells us the PCB is not communicating well, so we do not look at the pumps first. The ezDispense label can mislead, because this code reports a link between boards instead of a pump problem.
Will unplugging help with Ed5?
A 60-second power-down can clear a one-time communication glitch. If Ed5 comes back right away, a deeper test is needed. A single reset is fine. If Ed5 returns at once, a second try tells us little, so call us.
Does Ed5 mean the main board is bad?
Not by itself. Poor communication can come from a connection as well as a board. We narrow it down before recommending a part. We look at the connections and the boards, and we tell you what we find before suggesting a part.
Still seeing Ed5?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
