What PS means
On LG electric dryers, PS means the dryer sees improper voltage at the power cord. One possible cause is a cord installed with the white and red wires reversed on the terminal block. The dryer may refuse to start or heat. This is an installation and supply condition, so the outlet, the cord type, and the breaker are the first things to look at, and not the lint or vent.
Common causes of PS
- A power cord installed as 3-wire or 4-wire that does not match the outlet
- White and red wires swapped at the terminal block
- An outlet that is not a grounded 240-volt supply
- A weak breaker or a missing leg of power
1. Confirm the cord installation is correct for your outlet, 3-wire or 4-wire. 2. Switch the dryer's breaker off for 10 seconds, then on again. 3. Check that the outlet is grounded and supplies 240 volts. If it does not, call a licensed electrician.
- Cord wiring at the terminal block must be right, and we check that and the outlet voltage before opening anything else.
- If the supply is correct and PS stays, the dryer's voltage sensing needs testing.
Other Dryer codes
What causes PS on an LG electric dryer?
Improper voltage at the power cord. A common cause is the wires reversed on the terminal block, but a poor outlet or breaker can do the same.
Can I swap the cord wires myself?
The terminal block is behind a panel and carries live power, so we do that work. Do not open the back of the dryer yourself.
Is PS the same as nP?
No. nP means no current at the heater, and PS means improper voltage at the cord. Both involve the power supply, but they point to different checks.
Still seeing PS?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
