What F1 means
On LG condensing and heat-pump dryers with a heat exchanger, F1 reports a problem in the cycle system: the heat exchanger is no longer producing heat. The drum may still turn and the clothes may tumble, but they come out damp because nothing is warming the air. The code names the heating cycle, not a clogged vent. It appears on the newer LG error list for models that dry with a heat exchanger.
Common causes of F1
- The heat exchanger is not producing heat
- A sensor or thermistor reading that does not match the cycle
- A control signal that is not reaching the heating circuit
1. Unplug the dryer for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and restart. 2. Clean the lint filter and let the dryer cool with the door open for a few minutes. 3. If F1 returns, stop using the dryer and call us.
- F1 does not show which part of the heating cycle stopped, so we test the heat exchanger path step by step.
- We check for a reading problem before replacing anything that heats.
- You will see the written price before we begin.
Other Dryer codes
Why are my clothes damp with F1 showing?
F1 means the heat exchanger has stopped producing heat, so the dryer only tumbles in room-temperature air. Clothes stay wet until the heating cycle works again. Cleaning the lint filter is still sensible, but it will not bring the heat back.
Will unplugging the dryer fix F1?
A 60-second power reset clears a one-time glitch. If F1 returns on the next cycle, the heating system needs testing and not another reset. Keep the loads small until we have looked at it.
Does F1 apply to every LG dryer?
This entry covers models with a heat exchanger, meaning condensing or heat-pump types. Vented electric and gas dryers report heat problems with other codes. Your owner's guide shows which type of dryer you have.
