What tE means
tE is a heating error. On LG front-load washers with an alphanumeric display, including the WashTower washer half and WashCombo, it usually means a thermistor problem. On LG top-load washers with an alphanumeric display, it means a temperature-sensor problem inside the tub, or very hot water poured in. The owner sees tE and the washer stops the wash. The washer may stop before the wash is complete.
Common causes of tE
- Temperature sensor or thermistor reading
- Very hot water poured into a top-load tub
- One-time reading problem that a restart can clear
1. Front-load: unplug for 10 seconds. 2. Run a no-spin drain, then restart. 3. Top-load: unplug and let any hot water cool. 4. Restart the washer. 5. Check that the cycle is not set to a hotter temperature than needed. 6. Check that the door is closed and nothing is caught in the seal.
- If tE returns on a cold start, the sensor and its wiring are the open question.
- We test the temperature sensing and tell you what we find, with a written price first.

Can hot water I add cause tE?
On a top-load washer, very hot water poured in can trigger it. Let it cool and restart. The thermistor is a temperature sensor, and the control uses it to confirm that the water is as warm as it expects.
What is a no-spin drain?
It is a drain without a spin, in the front-load steps. Use it as listed for your model, then restart. Pour only the water your cycle needs, and let a hot top-load tub cool before another try.
Is a thermistor expensive to fix?
