What LE2, AE, CE1 means
On LG dryers that dry with a compressor, the codes LE2, AE, and CE1 all report a problem with the compressor, the part that generates the heat used for drying. The dryer may tumble and run, but the clothes stay damp or the cycle stops early with one of the three codes. The list treats them as one condition, so the number you see does not change the first steps.
Common causes of LE2, AE, CE1
- The compressor not starting or stopping on protection
- A start or run circuit for the compressor that is not working
- Poor airflow forcing the compressor to shut down
- A control board signal to the compressor that is missing
1. Unplug the dryer, wait one full minute, then plug it back in. 2. Clean the lint filter and let the dryer sit with the door open for a few minutes. 3. Start a cycle. If LE2, AE, or CE1 shows again, stop using the dryer.
- A returning code means the compressor system is still not running, and we test its circuit before anything is replaced.
- The code does not separate a compressor problem from a control problem, so we check the circuit first.
- The sealed heating system is not something an owner can inspect, so that part is ours.
Other Dryer codes
Are LE2, AE, and CE1 different problems?
They are listed together as a compressor problem. The compressor generates the heat for drying, so any of the three means heat is not being made correctly. Tell us which one you see, so we can note it before the visit.
Why are my clothes still wet with this code?
If the compressor is not running, the dryer cannot produce the heat needed to dry. The drum may still turn, which can make it look as if the cycle is working. Tumbling alone does not dry anything without that heat.
Can I fix this by resetting the dryer?
A one-minute unplug can clear a one-time stop. If the code returns, a reset will not help, and the compressor circuit needs testing. Try that once only, and call us if the code returns.
