What PF means
PF means a power failure interrupted the washer. On LG top-load washers with an alphanumeric display, the washer resumes the last operation and this is not an error. On LG front-load washers with an alphanumeric display, PF is listed as a power failure. The owner sees PF after the power went out or the washer lost power during a cycle.
Common causes of PF
- Household power interruption
- Breaker or outlet that lost power
- Power connection to the washer
1. Top-load: press Start/Pause to resume. 2. Front-load: unplug the washer or turn the breaker off. 3. Hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds. 4. Restore the power. 5. Check that the plug is fully seated in the outlet and the cord is not pinched. 6. If PF returns, write down roughly when and what else was running in the house.
- If PF shows with no outage, we cannot tell whether the supply or the washer is dropping out.
- We check the outlet, the cord and the washer's power input before suggesting any repair.
Other Washer codes
Is PF a real problem on a top-load washer?
No. The washer resumes its last operation, and it is not treated as an error. Press Start/Pause to carry on. Top-load washers pick up where they stopped, so a press of Start/Pause is usually all they need.
What do I do for PF on a front-load washer?
Cut the power at the plug or breaker, hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds, then restore the power. Use the 5-second hold only on the front-load washer, and only after the power is off at the plug or breaker.
Why does PF keep showing with no blackout?
Brief dips in household power can do it. If it repeats, tell us how often, and we check the outlet and the washer. If PF appears without a clear outage, we look at the outlet, the cord and the washer's power input.
Still unsure about PF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
