LG offers both front-load and top-load washers, and the two designs wear in different ways. Front-loaders depend on a door gasket, a drain pump filter and a direct-drive motor, while top-loaders rely on an agitator or impeller, a lid switch and a suspension rod set.

Houston laundry rooms are often small, warm and damp, which is hard on gaskets and detergent drawers and encourages residue in hoses. Garage and closet installs also see dust and the occasional storm outage, and a power interruption mid-cycle can leave a control board in an odd state until it is reset.

We begin with what the washer shows and does: the code if any, whether it fills, drains and spins on its own, and where water appears. Then we inspect the filter, hoses, door lock, pump and the inlet screens. If the cause is not certain, we say so and explain the next test.

05Washer questions
The washer will not drain. What is safe to try first?

Turn it off, unplug it and have towels and a shallow pan ready, because water in the drum and hose comes out when a filter is opened. Many front-load models have a small drain filter behind a panel that an owner can clear. Beyond that, the pump and hoses are ours to check.

Front-load washer still smells after cleaning. Why?

Moisture trapped in the door gasket and detergent drawer is the usual cause, worse in humid Houston laundry rooms. Wipe the gasket, leave the door ajar between loads and use less detergent. If the smell persists, drain filters and hoses may hold residue, and we can inspect them.

The drum shakes hard on spin. Is it a problem with the machine?

Often it is the load or the floor: a single heavy item, an uneven surface or a leg that is not locked. Front-load models also ship with transit bolts that must be removed. If the shaking continues with a balanced load, suspension parts may be worn and we can check them.
